RTV 1473 is a black, one-part, ready to use silicone sealant designed for creating formed-in-place gaskets in applications that require good resistance to oils. This silicone resists swelling in oils and coolants and has a paste-like consistency that allows it to be applied to horizontal, vertical or overhead surfaces in thicknesses up to 6mm.

RTV 1473 Silicone exhibits a good flow rate (380gm / min.) which allows for rapid application. It can be used for two types of formed in place gaskets; wet bead or cured bead. The wet bead method involves mating two surfaces before RTV 1473 has been fully cured and provides the best seal but does make future disassembly more difficult. Conversely, the cured bead method involves dispensing RTV 1473 onto one surface, allowing the silicone rubber to cure before mechanically joining the two surfaces. This second method allows for easier disassembly later.

RTV 1473 offers primer-less adhesion to many substrates and retains its elastomeric properties in temperatures ranging up to 205ºC (short term up to 260ºC). It has high quality weatherability, ozone and oil resistance and conforms to surface voids and irregularities to form a positive seal. RTV 1473 is commonly used for sealing oil circulation systems, machine housings, oil troughs and barriers and for making formed in place gaskets for gear boxes, engines and pumps.

RTV 1473 Silicone should not be used in applications with constant contact with gasoline or in delicate electrical applications in which corrosion of copper, brass or other sensitive metals is an issue.
