Calmicaglas 4202 High-Temperature Resin Rich Insulation
Calmicaglas 4202 is a highly flexible, Class H resin-rich mica insulation designed for high-temperature electrical insulation applications up to 180°C.
Manufactured from uncalcined muscovite mica paper, glass cloth on both sides and a thermosetting epoxy-novolac resin, Calmicaglas 4202 combines excellent dielectric, thermal, mechanical and chemical properties with a flexible construction that makes it easy to wrap around bars and coils.
Its double glass-cloth construction provides enhanced thermo-mechanical stability, helping to reduce the risk of delamination, partial discharge and hot spots during demanding electrical applications.
Calmicaglas 4202 is particularly suited to the insulation of bars and coils in electrical motors and generators requiring Class H (180°C) thermal performance.
Key Features

High-Temperature Electrical Insulation
The combination of mica paper, double-sided glass cloth and thermosetting epoxy-novolac resin makes Calmicaglas 4202 suitable for demanding electrical insulation applications where both high-temperature performance and mechanical stability are important.
Unlike a conventional flexible mica construction, the two glass-cloth layers provide additional reinforcement during processing and service. According to the manufacturer, this construction improves thermo-mechanical properties and helps avoid delamination that can contribute to partial discharge and hot-spot formation.
Applications
Calmicaglas 4202 is primarily used for:
- Electrical motor insulation
- Generator insulation
- Insulation of bars and coils
- High-temperature electrical insulation
- High-voltage rotating machinery
- Formed and pressed insulation components

Processing
Calmicaglas 4202 can be wrapped by hand or applied using automatic taping machines. Following application, the insulation can be cured in a hot press.
Recommended pressing conditions for achieving form stability are:
| Property | Recommended Range |
|---|---|
| Temperature | 130–180°C |
| Time | 0.5-8.0 hours |
| Pressure | 1–2 N/mm² |
| Example | 1 hour at 160°C and 2 N/mm² |
The material is fully cured after 4 hours at 160°C.
Preheating conditions vary depending on the size of the bars or coils. The manufacturer’s TDS recommends a minimum-pressure preheating cycle ranging from 20 minutes at 135°C to 5 minutes at 160°C.
Storage
Recommended minimum storage life:
- 6 months at 20°C
- 12 months at 5°C
Store material in appropriate conditions and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for handling and storage.
Why Choose Calmicaglas 4202?
For applications requiring more than basic flexible mica insulation, Calmicaglas 4202 provides a combination of Class H temperature performance, flexibility and enhanced mechanical stability.
The double glass-cloth construction is a key feature, providing additional thermo-mechanical reinforcement and helping to reduce the risk of delamination, partial discharge and hot spots in demanding motor and generator insulation applications.
