Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon mixture that is commonly used in applications requiring a high level of solvency. A versatile solvent, Xylene can be included in almost any formulation where increased solvency is required and it combines well with other organic compounds. It is particularly effective in the solvency of greases, oils, and general dirt as well as many sophisticated surface coatings and high molecular weight organics. As such, Xylene is commonly found in many coating formulations such as industrial enamels, two-part epoxies and polyurethanes. Xylenes high solvency and mid-range evaporation rate has seen it used widely for a range specialized applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial industries.
AG stocks an industrial grade of Xylene which is in the form of a sweet-smelling, colourless liquid. It is highly flammable and is also considered hazardous. As a result, AG recommends reading both the TDS and SDS prior to use.
