Leather is a strong and durable material that is still commonly used for many sealing applications. This high quality material comes from the hides of cattle which is then tanned and/or treated. The type of treatment largely determines the properties of the leather and as a result there are many types offered by AG, including:
- Vegetable Tanned
- Suede Leather
- Upholstery Leather
As previously stated, properties such as impermeability, temperature resistance, tensile strength and pliability are determined by the type of leather and treatment. However, leather is generally considered a tough material that is fairly resistant to abrasion and wear. As a result, AG has fabricated leather components for use in a number of different applications including flange gaskets, automotive seals, washers for pumps, packing and for components on welding blankets.
The size of a side of leather is always nominal as it is limited by the typical size of the hide. Generally, a side contains approximately 2 square metres of material. AG also offers cut components such as gaskets and washers as well as a range of custom fabricated components.
